Hi subscriber!

4 days of crammed family and friend socialising, too much chocolate and the subsequent screaming sugar highs and tired tantrum sugar lows. Avoid feeling wrecked at the end of it - here’s our tips for a happy holiday:

  • Satisfy your chocolate cravings with our healthy and super-easy chocolate recipes.
  • However, remember that even healthy chocolate recipes contain caffeine and you’ll want to monitor how much your kids are having so they don’t have trouble sleeping. Mix it up with some healthy non-cocoa treats that you can whip up quickly to serve to guests.
  • Get the kids to burn off some calories (remember kids need at least an hour running around every day).
    • Singing and dancing gets kids moving and also improves their literacy, coordination and motor skills. Why not try one of the multilingual songs, you might learn something too!
    • Play – see our new road safety games – all materials downloadable.
    • Have a scavenger hunt with little toys rather than eggs as the bounty. Get them from your local charity shop (ensure they are age appropriate), or use your child’s existing toys and make the activity more about the the hunt than the treasure.
  • And show how much you treasure your children with praise for their efforts (Wow you did a great drawing!) rather than their personal qualities (Wow you’re a great artist!). New research shows these subtle language differences can have a drastic effect on a child’s self-worth and self esteem.
  • Try not to sway too far from normal bedtimes, sleep helps them to learn more!
  • Look after thyself parent! Have a quiet cuppa, take 10 minutes all to yourself and check out:

Happy parenting!

Beth :-)

Parenting Thoughts

In spite of the six thousand manuals on child raising in the bookstores, child raising is still a dark continent and no one really knows anything. You just need a lot of love and luck – and, of course, courage.
- Bill Cosby
---------------------------------

If you want your children to turn out well, spend twice as much time with them and half as much money.
- Abigail Van Buren
---------------------------------

You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance.

Children Learn What They Live
by Dorothy Law Nolte

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.
