Steve was still struggling with the fact that he constantly had to leave his pregnant wife at home while he flew off to work for weeks at a time. Luckily for him he was able to spend a good amount of time at home throughout the second trimester which he spent attending appointments with his wife and getting to know his little baby girl.

Building a routine and a bond

During the second trimester Steve was able to be home from his fly in, fly out job more often and took the opportunity to really build up a bond with his little baby.

“I started to feel a connection with our baby,” he said.

“We had found out that it was a little girl and I had seen a 3D scan which is some crazy technology.

“Already my wife and I were picking out family resemblances.

“I remember spending hours discussing girls names with my partner, I thought it was really fun trying to pick through all the names and find one that we liked and that suited the baby.

Steve’s partner was showing a decent baby bump at this stage and Steve remembers how crazy it was seeing it move around and feeling those first few kicks.

“You see people on TV feeling the baby kick and stuff like that but I didn’t really think that it was a thing everyone could experience.

“Feeling it move inside the womb only made me connect even more with little bubs.”

One chuffed father-to-be

By now Steve was on cloud nine and really embracing the pregnancy and prospective fatherhood.

“I was really happy and excited at this point as the reality of our situation had sunk in.

“My partner and I became even closer than we were before.

“It sounds a bit cheesy but I genuinely felt like we fell more in love during this time, if that was even possible.

“With all the stress that comes with FIFO work, I was just super happy that this little baby was happening, it provided a warm light of joy at times when I really needed it.

“We were well on our way to becoming parents and we were stoked to be able to share the experience with one another.
